Description: We are looking for the person who will lead our new (now in its first year) progressive, elementary public charter school in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York. Our school embraces the ideals of ethics, service, and social justice and offers a demanding, well-rounded education in academic studies and the arts. Our school leader will embody, manifest, and help us to implement the mission of The Ethical Community Charter School.

Position Description:

1. To embody, manifest, and advocate the mission of the school.

2. To maintain standards throughout the school that enhance the ethical development and academic achievement of our students.

3. To represent the school to all of its constituents, including students, parents, faculty and staff, the local residential and business community, and the media.

4. To attend all regular School Board meetings, report to the board monthly, and keep the Board informed on all aspects of the school's operation.

5. To work with the Board in its efforts to bring about generous support of the school.

6. To represent the school in its relations with city, state, and federal agencies, submitting reports to these agencies as required.

7. To represent the school in its relationship with local, state, regional, and national educational organizations.

8. To hire, train, and inculcate teachers and other educational staff in the standards and philosophy of TECCS; to provide for their professional development; and to evaluate them.

9. To supervise faculty and staff.

10. To oversee, review, and evaluate the academic program.

11. To work with the Business Administrator or financial services provider on the budget and financial reports.

12. To engage in additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Board of Trustees from time to time.

Qualifications:

1. Knowledge of, affinity with, and commitment to the educational philosophy of TECCS.

2. Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously in a multicultural, diverse, urban community.

3. Master's degree from an accredited college or university.

4. Minimum of two years of experience in administration of an elementary school.

5. Minimum of four years of elementary classroom teaching.

6. Advanced degree or study in School Administration preferred.

7. Charter school experience preferred.
